The death has occurred of Tommy Rowsome

The Association regrets to announce the death of Tommy Rowsome. Tommy was an outstanding table tennis coach and directly responsible for the development of over 80 boys and girls who represented Ireland at junior or senior international levels. He was known throughout the country, wherever table tennis was played. But Tommy was much more than a table tennis coach. Whether it was in the Glenalbyn Club in Stillorgan in the late 60s and 70s and, later, elsewhere, he created an extraordinary joyful, safe and secure environment. Children and teenagers were given every encouragement to develop their table tennis abilities but, without realising it at the time, were also acquiring valuable life enhancing skills.

Our Chairman Joe Hickey said ‘Any club where Tommy was the guiding light was truly a special place’. For his extraordinary achievements, Tommy was awarded the first ever Honorary Life Membership of Irish table tennis. He was a unique and special person, may he rest in peace.

An online book of condolence is available on https://rip.ie/cb.php?dn=458469
