European Youth Champions Day 6 – Youngster Blossom in Ostrava

CADET BOYS SINGLES

11 year old Owen Cathcartsteals the limelight from his older counterparts winning his singles match 4-2 against Magnus Johann Hjartarson of Iceland and qualifying for the main event. Alexander Gillen was unable to exact revenge on Scotland’s Yaser Razouk by losing 4-2 but he has one more chance in the Cadet Doubles tomorrow when he teams up with Zak WilsonZak was unlucky to face a tough Greek opponent and ended his Singles campaign with a 4-2 loss.

CADET GIRLS SINGLES

Our youngest girl out in Ostrava Rebecca Finn was also in winning form when she beat Scotland’s Rachel Crawford 4-1. Chloe O’Halloran was very unlucky to lose to her Greek opponent Syliani Pateraki in the 7th set 11-8. Katie McGlone also lost her match against Bulgaria’s Mihaela Dimova 4-2.

CADET MIXED DOUBLES

Alexander Gillen and Chloe O’Halloranpaired up for the Cadet Mixed Doubles and together claimed a 3-1 victory over Bosnia and Herzegovina’s Dino Cizmic and Elda Šehic. Our two young Cadets Owen and Rebecca also continued their winning form by beating Iceland’s Breki Thordarson and Kolfinna Bjarnadottir 3-1. Zak Wilson and Katie McGlone lost 3-1 to Sadettin Gencer and Dilan Tek from Turkey. In Round 1 the Cadets met some highly ranked pairs but did not give up without a fight as both picked up a set.

JUNIOR GIRLS SINGLES

Both Hannah Lynch-Dawson and Emma Ludlow were very unlucky to lose their first Singles matches. Hannah took an early 3-0 lead and almost claimed the 4th but lost it 13-11 and then went on to lose the subsequent 3 sets to lose the match 4-3. Emma was 3-1 up and got all the way to 9 in the 5th set but was piped to the post by her Ukrainian opponent and with a slow live online scoring system, anxious parents were waiting for the score to appear and unluckily Emma had lost the following 3 sets also losing in the 7th set.

Simona HORVATHOVA (ER:272) (SLO) beat Hannah LYNCH-DAWSON (ER: 274) 4-3 (8-11, 9-11, 9-11, 13-11, 11-3, 11-9, 11-8)

Margaryta PRUDIUS (ER: 200) (UKR) beat Emma LUDLOW 4-3 (8-11, 8-11, 11-5, 5-11, 11-9, 14-12, 11-5)

JUNIOR MIXED DOUBLES

Emma Ludlowwas paired with Slovakian Tilen Novak in the qualification round of the Mixed Doubles and managed to claim a 3-2 victory with a 16-14 win in the 5th over their Bulgarian opponents. They then moved into Round 1 and faced the Moldovan pair of Victor Cissa and Olga Bliznet but unfortunately lost 3-0. Hannah Lynch-Dawson was paired with England’s Igor Morais and beat their Italian opposition 3-1 and move into the last 64.
