Table Tennis Ireland is proud to recognise Catherine Finegan, who has successfully completed the Sport Ireland Women in Sport Leadership Programme, supporting her ongoing work to promote and develop women’s involvement in table tennis at all levels.
The Women in Sport Leadership Programme is a flagship initiative delivered by Sport Ireland. The programme is designed to empower women in the sports sector by enhancing strategic thinking, self-awareness, understanding of good governance and leadership capabilities, and is closely aligned to the Sport Ireland Policy on Women in Sport and its focus on strengthening leadership and governance.
Catherine’s achievement was also highlighted at the recent Sport Ireland Women in Sport Summit 2025, a day that brought together leaders and changemakers from across Irish sport to focus on turning policy into meaningful participation and lasting cultural change.
Through the programme, Catherine has developed further skills in areas such as communication, decision-making, confidence and conflict management.
Within Table Tennis Ireland, Catherine will be using her learning to:
- Support our Women in Sport work and help drive female participation and visibility across clubs and programmes
- Contribute to strong, values-based governance and decision-making
- Mentor and support other women who are interested in taking on leadership roles in our sport
- Help ensure that table tennis continues to live our vision of being “A Sport for All, A Sport for Life.”
Speaking about the programme, Catherine reflected that the experience has reinforced her commitment to creating environments where women and girls feel welcomed, listened to and supported to reach their potential – on and off the table.
