Carlow Primary School Table Tennis Program in collaboration with Carlow Sports Partnership

What a way to finish out the Carlow Roadshow program with a fun Table Tennis festival!

In April Leinster CCDO Ivanna delivered a 3-day Roadshow consisting of taster sessions in 8 primary schools from Carlow Town, Bagenalstown and Tullow Districts, with over 500 pupils taking part, many never having played table tennis before. Carlow Sports Partnership funded starter packs for each of the schools.

Following this on 26th May, five of those schools came together for a fun festival in the Presentation College Carlow, showcasing their newly learned skills and learning how to officiate. Even the teachers gave a hand at keeping score! The day was met with great enthusiasm with over 170 pupils participating in a round robin festival. The schools were Gaelscoil Ui Thuarsic, Carlow Educate Together NS, Bishop Foley Boys NS, Askea Boys NS and Grange NS. With Askea Boys NS finishing the day as the champions!

Thank you to Carlow Sports Partnership and Michael McCarty for the collaboration and the opportunity to bring Table Tennis to County Carlow. The program has created an accessible activity for primary schools and a pathway to an alternative sport. The pupils improved their skills and knowledge of the game over a 6-week period and hopefully this has inspired them to continue playing. We look forward to working with these schools again and tracking their progress as they embark on this new journey.

Thank you to the two volunteers on the day Oksana and Patrycja from Carlow Institute of Further Education who gave up their day to help out.
