STIGA Fivemiletown Junior Challenger

Stiga Fivemiletown Junior Challenger Results

A fantastic Challenger Tournament was held at Fivemiletown College this weekend.

Young players from all over Ulster and visitors from Co. Mayo assembled in Fivemiletown on Saturday to take part in a Stiga Junior Challenger Table Tennis Competition.  The event is sponsored by the Stiga Table Tennis Equipment Company of Sweden through their Irish Importer, Fitzgerald’s Table Tennis in Dublin.

Amanda Mogey Table Tennis Ulster Talent ID Officer was the event Referee assisted by Philip Jamison.

The emphasis was on fun and participation.  In Ranking terms, the top 15 Boys at Junior Irish level and the top 8 at Cadet level, and Girls ranked in the top 8 at Junior level or the top 5 at Cadet level were excluded from entering this tournament, the round robin format ensured players had as lots of games against opponents of all levels from novice through to some of the rising stars of the future in the sport.

Division 1 was hotly contested with a three way count back resulting in Aditya Subramani (Valley TTC) just piping Coleraine’s Adam Wallace in to second place. Mayo’s David Taylor performed magnificently to finish in 3rd position defeating many older opponents.

Division 2 was dominated the  Donegal ace John Gallagher who defeated Cavan’s Adam Dunne in a fifth set thriller with Banbridge’s Calum Couert finishing in 3rd position.

In an entertaining division 3, Danny McKenna defeated Banbridge player Scott Dale in 4 sets to finish in 1st place with Scott defeating young Mayo prospect Grace Hodgins to finish in 2nd position with Grace finishing in 3rd position.

Eoghan McCloughlan completed dominated in Division 4 defeating both Donegal’s Tori Steele and Banbridge’s Nikki Browne by sets to nil. Laura Steele showed excellent promise defeating Nikki Browne in an excellent match to finish in 2nd place with Nikki finishing in 3rd place.

Castlerahan players dominated in Division 5 with Lauren Matthews coming out on top defeated Conor Caffrey into 2nd place. Stephen Fitsimmons acquitted himself well to finish in 3rd position in this division.

For many players, this was their first real taste of an Ulster competition, many of whom are relatively new to the sport. TTU Talent ID Officer Amanda Mogey praised the players on the standard of play and how each player conducted themselves throughout the day.

Thanks go to all the players and parents for turning up on the day and to the many parents who stayed behind to help clear the hall after this event. This was very much appreciated.
