Mixed results at EYC team championships.
Vincent shines in doubles in EYC! Vincent Ni partnered with Adam Alabhai(England) were still fighting when they reached the last 16 in the boys cadet doubles. In round 1 they defeated a Wales, Luxembourg combination 3-0. In the round of 32, they played Krot/Petrasheuski (A.I.N), in a cliffhanger the Irish/English pair won 15-13 in the 5th set to reach the round of 16 where they fought bravely against Poland, losing 1-3.
In the singles event, both Peadar and Vincent qualified in their groups, Peadar winning both his matches convincingly 3-0, while Vincent won 1 out of 2 to advance to the knockout round of 128.
Peadar got off to a promising start in the best of 7 match with a 3-0 lead, Campagna (Italy) using his very powerful forehand clawed his way back to record a 4-3 victory. A similar story for Vincent who raced to a 3-1 lead against Bulgarian number 2 Dimitrov who edged a thriller 11-9 in the seventh set.
Anjali Singh, competing in the juniors girls event began well defeating Mulhern 3-1 (Scotland) losing to Hansen 1-3 (Denmark) and losing to Mikalauskyte 0-3, (Lithuania).
In the Junior girls doubles, partnered with Scottish player, Shannon Brown defeated Mulhern/Smolarek (Scotland) 3-2 but were defeated by number 1 seeds Mei-Rosu/Griesel (Romania/Germany) 0-3.
In the team event at EYC, there were mixed fortunes for the cadet boys team of Peadar Sheridan (Ormeau TTC) and Vincent Ni (Loop TTC). They played 17 matches during the championship defeating Estonia 3-2, Scotland 3-1, Malta 3-0, San Marino 3-0 and losing to Norway 2-3, Croatia 1-3, Lithuania 1-3. Finishing in 30th position out of the 38 competing countries. Their opening performance on the tournament was their downfall, leading 2-0 after the opening 2 singles and leading 2-0 in the doubles. They let victory slip from their grasp and Norway continued on their way to claim the match 3-2
The junior boys of Adam Faulkner, Ben Watson, Tom Irwin defeating Malta 3-2, Iceland 3-2 and Greenland 3-0.
They lost to Cyprus 1-3, Montenegro 0-3, Denmark 0-3, Austria 0-3 and Serbia 0-3 to finish 37th out of 41 teams.
